PhD Overview
My PhD research explores chemical stress ecology by assessing the ecological impacts of pesticides on freshwater biodiversity and ecosystem functions. It combines controlled microcosm and mesocosm experiments with field extrapolations to understand pesticide toxicity under varying environmental conditions, including climate stressors like elevated temperatures. The study focuses on aquatic organisms such as zooplankton, benthic macroinvertebrates, and microbial communities, evaluating their responses to chemical stress across scales. By bridging laboratory findings with real-world scenarios, this work provides critical insights for risk assessment and sustainable pesticide management, supporting efforts to preserve freshwater ecosystems in Ethiopia and beyond.
Sustainability Goals
- Clean Water and Sanitation
- Climate Action
- Life Below Water
