- PhD Title: The effects of Ficus umbellata Vahl on models of breast and ovarian cancers and elucidation of mechanism of action: in vitro and in vivo studies
- Year of Completion: 2021

PhD Overview
My PhD research project aimed at investigating the antitumor effect of Ficus umbellata and its bioactive compounds and elucidating their mechanism of action. To accomplish this, we evaluated the effect of Ficus umbellata methanolic extract on models of breast and ovarian cancers in vivo, their effect on cell cycle progression, cell death, cell migration and invasion in vitro. Further, we carried out a phytochemical investigation of the methanolic extract to isolate its bioactive compounds. The cytotoxic potential of the bioactive compounds was then evaluated followed by their effect at the molecular level on apoptosis, cell cycle, migration and invasion.
